Kick-off session of the event series "Science & Technology"

A new series of events "Science & technology: from basic research to technology transfer" is an internal series of workshops and lectures designed both for early career and experienced researchers of the Cluster to broaden their horizon in terms of forms and varieties of research and industry collaboration and to prepare them for a tentative transition from academia to industry. It is planned to host a meeting on a regular basis.

Summary
In high-performance laboratories, scientists of the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat are intensively engaged into research to reveal the mysterious quantum world, to discover previously unknown materials, and to make them usable for everyday life. But what works in the lab is still a long way from being mass-produced. A new event series aims at increasing awareness of the topic "Knowledge and technology transfer" among the cluster's early career researchers and providing them with concrete tools for a career in industry or as a start-up. Experienced researchers will have the opportunity to brush up on knowledge in order to be able to provide advisory support to their employees.
On 16 July 2021, within the kick-off session, we are happy to welcome Sebastian Wündisch who will provide an overview on intellectual property rights and legal areas which are relevant for technology transfer as well as on forms of transfer, such as licensing or spin-offs.
According to the needs of the participants, topics will be identified (e.g., patent law, start-ups, etc.) that will be covered in greater breadth in subsequent event series.

Sebastian Wündisch is an internationally active expert in technology transfer and licensing. The lawyer advises technology driven companies - including global players, Dax 30 companies, mid-sized companies and start-ups - on all intellectual property issues and represents his clients in both arbitration and court proceedings. He is an honorary professor for intellectual property and technology transfer at Technische Universität Dresden and for IP and licensing law at the University of Leipzig.
