Summary
Quantum materials light up!
Fundamental properties of matter change drastically in the quantum regime on the atomic scale. Exceptionally robust electronic complexes emerge to absorb and emit light with high efficiency. Transporting energy and information, they offer fascinating platforms for basic science and avenues for future technology.
About Alexey Chernikov
Alexey Chernikov was appointed to TU Dresden in 2021 and conducts research at the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat at the Chair of Ultrafast Microscopy and Photonics.
He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Marburg for the work on the optical properties of semiconducting materials and external cavity semiconducting lasers in 2012. In 2013, he was granted a Feodor-Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to conduct his postdoctoral research on Coulomb phenomena in atomically-thin 2D systemswith the group of Tony F. Heinz at the Columbia University. Alexey was granted further awards and prizes:
2016 – Emmy-Noether (DFG) research group leader at the University of Regensburg
2018 – Heinz-Maier Leibnitz award of the DFG
2020 – ERC Consolidator Grant in 2020
