Claudia Felser receives Max Born Prize

Overview

Dresden chemist Prof. Claudia Felser has been awarded the 2022 Max Born Prize for her outstanding scientific contributions to physics. Felser is director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids and is one of the 25 principal investigators of the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat – Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter. She is a world leader in the design and discovery of new inorganic compounds, in particular so-called Heusler compounds and other topological quantum materials. The prize is awarded jointly by the British Institute of Physics and the German Physical Society.

Claudia Felser is only the third female researcher to receive the Max Born Prize. The jury statement praised "her seminal contributions to the fields of magnetic and chiral topology, in prediction, single crystal growth, and experimental observations." Felser is one of the “highly cited researchers” who gather an exceptionally high number of citations worldwide. The award ceremony is expected to take place in London (UK) in the autumn of 2022.

Since 1973, the Max Born Prize has been awarded for particularly valuable and timely scientific contributions to physics – in memory of the work of Nobel Prize winner Max Born. The award is given annually, alternately between German and British researchers. The German mathematician and physicist Max Born was persecuted by the National Socialists and took up British citizenship in exile. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1954 for his contributions to quantum mechanics.
